Self-care is about the small daily rituals that help us maintain energy and calm while balancing home, work, children, and fun!
As a 'young' middle-aged woman, I have learned to manage my physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional health. It means I know when I need to ask a friend for a hike, go to a yoga class, stir up a fizz, massage some detox oil or relax with Brad on our deck with a martini!
Arbonne makes self-care simple and easy. Thanks to the AgeWell line, getting compliments that I look like I am 30 ain't bad either!!!
Self-Care, are you practicing it?
I partnered with Arbonne as we take a holistic approach to wellness and believe that the key to overall wellbeing lies in the connection between a healthier mind, stronger body, and more beautiful skin.
The Mind-Body-Skin Connection
The human body is interconnected in myriad ways, and many links between the mind (brain), body (gut) and skin have been established.

The Microbiome
Maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle are the ideal ways to promote a healthy microbiome. However, many common aspects of our modern lives — such as stress, illness, a poor diet and antibiotic use — can have a negative impact on our body’s microbiome.
“Germs” may get a bad rap, but it’s a fact that microbes are everywhere, including inside your body and on the skin’s surface. This combination of “good” and “bad” bacteria is called the “microbiome.”
Foods and The Microbiome
Eating a plant-based diet instead of an animal-based diet can positively alter the microbial composition in as soon as one day. Consumption of a diet high in fibre has also been found to increase microbial diversity.
The Skin’s Microbiome
Your skin also has its own unique microbiome and it is believed the bacteria of the gut may influence the microbial balance of the skin. Although the connection isn’t entirely clear just yet, this is an emerging area of research. Some studies have shown that consuming certain strains of probiotics may have cosmetic benefits, ranging from preventing UV-induced photoaging, improved skin elasticity and hydration.
